Here’s a list of songs I never want to hear again:
1. Shakira: Whatever
2. Kylie Minogue: Make it….or any other song.
3. Sophie Ellis Bextor: Murder on the Dance floor
4. Eminem: Anything at all- take your pick
5. Brittany Spears - Not a girl…again, or any other song she does.
6. Westlife: ditto
7. Blue: Fly by
8. Enrique Englasias: whatever song it is that we keep hearing routinely
9. Christina Milian - Am to PM
And these are just the ones that we can find the names of on the net. The whole counrty--taxi's, restaurants, internet cafes, TV commercials--all seem to have the same playlist. With a few exceptions. But in gerneral, we hear the same somgs over and over agin until even if it might have been a good song, I NEVER want to hear it again.
We also hear Travis quite a lot, especially “Flowers in the Window”, but I still like that one. I haven’t managed to get sick of them at all.
Anyhow, here we are still job searching. Matt got another call this morning from a guy who says he’ll know by this afternoon if this one company wants to interview him. It was funny this one; because another girl called Matt about the same job, and didn’t bother to call him back when she said she would. So, when he realized this new recruiter was angling him for the same job at the same company, he told the guy. This recruiter (who was more knowledgeable about the job, and tech stuff, not to mention more competent as a recruiter), asked Matt to send him a waiver acknowledging the fact that Matt chose to go ahead with the job, with this recruiter instead of the other one. Since if the other girl finds out, she could potentially cause trouble for the new recruiter getting his commission.
But it is nice to have two recruiters kind of fighting over him :)
And Matt continues to get recruiters calling him daily about new positions, so they tease us into staying here that much longer.
And the going away dinner we went to on Wednesday night was spectacular. This sister made a huge Indian dinner complete with yoghurt-cucumber sauce and mango chutney. Chicken tikka masala, and a lovely veggie lentils dish. Then for dessert we were gifted with a fondue of butterscotch, marshmallows, and fruits. Yummy :)
The funny part of the evening was where the sister lives. It’s actually a really neat apartment in the part of town I would like to live most. But you enter it through the “Doll Hospital”.
SCARY
Not that here apartment is scary, but the part with all these disembodied doll parts lying around IS. You enter through the part of the store that sells new dolls. Then its up the stairs to the hospital bit. Her kitchen and bathroom are also on this level. Wonderful high ceilings and great view too. Nice Mary Poppins patio too.
Then she shows you the doll with the rosary beads and huge cross that’s a nun. There are actually nuns there that are from different religions---different habits. So they stay on opposite sides of the room :). Then there’s the one we called the quadrinity, because it was just a head with four faces. How scary would that be to a kid?
Don’t even get me started on the clowns.
I feel like I need to apologize to the sister though because here apartment was really nice, and I would love to live there. I think I gave her the impression that I thought HER house was scary. Although all of us (10 people in total) were wandering around telling her that the dolls were frightening. I still think I’m going to say something.
It was a really nice chance to get to know some different people in the hall. Even if they did joke all the time about “Americans”. Whenever they would say something (and honestly I don’t think they even noticed when they made these remarks) about Americans…which was oddly often…we would say something like, “ must be and East-coast thing”, or “ where did you see that?” Eventually they joked that Ireland is racist so don’t feel special. They make jokes about all races. And the really do. I wouldn’t want to be German and in that room :)
Lunch time again. Yep, at 3 pm.
We survived!
Our first demonstration in our new congregation, that is ;)
Although, I almost hit Matt in the teeth with the microphone, and almost dropped my mags, and I think we both talked at speeds previously unachieved by the human vocal chords. People kept telling us that it was good, but I am undeceived :). At least one sister told us that it was like watching TV because of our accents. That was funny. I never thought of that possibility.
And we did record it too…..
I think I forgot to mention that Matt is also reading for our bookstudy now. He started for the first time 2 weeks ago. So, we are really feeling like we are part of this congregation now. Tonight we are going to a going-away dinner for a sister that is moving back to her native Finland to get married. So, that should be fun. It’s so nice to be included in things like that, even when we are so new that we barely now the people involved. It makes you realize how special the congregation arrangement really is.
Anyone having trouble looking at our pictures?
We asked Leanna (Matt's sister) re-do the page, so it should be easier. It was just too big, and even we had trouble with it. It’s still at the same web-sight. (http://faegrove.angelcities.com/irelandpics.htm)
But its in thumb-nail size and on a scroll bar that makes it much much easier. Try it again, if you want to see them all.
And thanks again Leanna, it really looks great!
